2012 Holidays

April 2012: “Petra”, Black Prince Holidays

A weeks holiday with Mum & Dad moving 58ft Duchess 4 class “Petra” from Acton Bridge to Stoke Prior from where she would be sold. We hadn’t done too much narrowboating in recent years so this was a nice return, it was a fair run and the locks were harder work than we remember!

We also cruised the recently connected Droitwich Canal which was new ground for us. A nice canal that had a different feel to it and seemed still a bit undiscovered a bit of a different world. There wasn’t many places to moor due to reeds lining most of the bank but plenty of moorings were to be found in Droitwich basin.

The boat was spacious & comfortable and the central heating worked effectively at drying out our waterproofs which got plenty of use!

June 2012. “Escapade” Richardsons of Stalham:

Just the two of us were off for four days on a Westward 31 Sedan from Richardsons. She had been fully stripped back & refitted for 2011 and was comfortable inside & nicely fitted, with a few improvements to the layout such as an enlarged galley and a breakfast bar.

Given the weather that recent weeks had seen we were pretty lucky, with glorious sun most of the time, though on the final full day we were treated to a full day of consistent rain, where the omission of a windscreen wiper was a noticeable disadvantage!

October 2012: “Broadland Sun 3”, Richardsons of Stalham

I had three days away with good friends in mostly cracking weather on an Aquafibre 42 that I had always had a soft spot for

The boat was getting on a bit but handled well and was good value and comfortable, and there was lots of cabins... this old 42 footer was just the job for everyone and we had a great time awayl
